Cab Cafe in Bo. Kapitolyo, Pasig

I love being able to go out for lunch, its a rare opportunity as I would normally just eat at the office to be able to resume my work right after. However, whenever friends would invite me out to lunch and if my schedule will permit, I never hesitate to grab the chance to spend an hour away from the office and to try a new restaurant within the area.

I'm lucky that my office neighborhood has a number of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. For the past three years, I enjoy trying each new food spots while it has been a series of hits and misses, I never gave up knowing that someday I'll find more good things that I like than those I'd rather avoid forever.

A few days ago, Paul and I were invited to have lunch at the new restaurant along Baranggay Kapitolyo. It's literally just a stone's throw away from my office that I can actually take a trike to head to Kapitolyo if I need to. The name is Cab Cafe and I found out that it's the Metro Manila branch of the famous Bob's Cafe in Bacolod. Even their servers are all from Bacolod and they have almost the same menu at that at Bob's. Interesting!

The moment I learned that this came from Bacolod, images of delicious cakes and desserts entered my mind. Sadly, my sister and I were not able to try the real Bob's Cafe when we spent an entire day in Bacolod two years ago, I'll make a mental note to check it out on my next visit there.

Jane, Richard, Lauren and Irene were already there when we arrived. They were able to order already and so Paul and I just added one more pasta for all of us to share.

We began with the Country Sausage platter with 6 pieces of toasted bread. I love the tiny bite-sized sausages that it reminds me of the type that Mom and I would get from our favorite deli. It has a very meaty, flavorful filling packed into that small sausage size.

Our first pasta dish was Linguine with Sundried Tomatoes. It's a pretty straight-forward dish which will surely win the hearts of all tomato-based lovers. Paul and my friends enjoyed this while I found it a bit too spicy for my taste.

Pizza #1 had sweet ham and bacon which reminds me of the type of pizza being sold in my High School. It's your homemade pizza with thin crust topped with sweet tomato sauce, ham slices and bacon strips. It was very light that you can actually consume a number of slices in one sitting.

I'm very happy with our choice for the 2nd pasta -- we had the DeliPinoy Pasta which had Tinapa flakes, salted egg and tomatoes. It was very delicious and each ingredient perfectly blended together. I want to go back to Cab Cafe to enjoy more of this.

Pizza Negrense, our Pizza #2, got mixed reviews. Some felt it tasted weird due to the quail egg and chorizo while others, like yours truly, initially didn't like it but later couldn't stop taking one slice after the other. It's quite filling though thus I'd still prefer having Pizza #1 on my next return.

We were all very full from our carbo-loaded lunch but all of us are pleased with what we had for lunch. However, how can we just walk out of Cab Cafe without trying their famous desserts? From the moment I entered, the tall Strawberry Cake on the chiller has been calling out my name. Irene and I agreed that its such a pretty piece of cake. We're glad that they can actually serve us a slice to try.

The Verdict? I initially thought the cake was a giant pavlova and the strawberries alternate with cream and crispy meringue. However, the meringue were actually soft, fluffy chiffon cake-like to which Lauren said was like a big Strawberry Mamon. The cream was not that sweet and the chiffon-like layer was light and airy. I wasn't able to try the strawberries though but Paul said it wasn't so bad.

I'm glad that there's a good dining option that's located very near my office. They have free wifi too! Now I know where to unwind during my lunch break.
