Give Rub on Christmas Day : Rub Ribs & BBQ in Quezon City

Remember my search for the best Ribs in town? It's funny that I first found my favorite rib places in Angeles, Pampanga and as far as California, USA but none yet close to home. My search for the best rack of ribs never stopped though as I am determined to find THE ONE. That perfect ribs place that will allow me to go back to over and over again.

Wonder when will my luck strike?

RUB

Ever since Paul and I tied the knot a year and five months ago, we have been planning to have dinner with our every talented wedding coordinators and host. Since we all live extremely hectic lives, this has been pushed back a million times until last Wednesday when we finally found time and met up for dinner. Jerome, our host, is also a foodie. This is also one reason why we instantly clicked as he's a great fan of the magazine that I work for and our pre-wedding meetings would also end up with us talking about food, food and more food. He was the one who suggested that we try Rub Ribs & BBQ near Tomas Morato that evening.

I was so excited to dine at Rub after hearing raves from my fellow food bloggers. Paul and I were the first to arrive and were surprised at how tiny the restaurant was. At the ground floor was just one small table and the order counter. I love looking at the chalkboard menu which makes ordering so easy. On the second floor, there were only 4 tables that can probably seat 5-6 pax each. Luckily, we were still able to get a table for our group of 5.

While waiting for our companions to arrive, Paul and I ordered a basket of Nachos (Php. 170) to ease our growling tummies. As the basket was served, I was very happy with the crisp nacho chips and the delicious cheese sauce. Paul, on the other hand, had the bowl of salsa to himself. I was able to try the salsa and I liked it that that it wasn't spicy at all. It had the right level of sourness which Paul enjoyed very much. The cheese sauce was creamy and thick, one dip will surely make you crave for more. This is one of the best nachos that I've ever tasted and it's very reasonably-priced too.

Jerome, Cathy and Jenn finally arrived and we immediately placed our orders. Jerome, being the only one who have tried Rub before, was in charge of ordering for the entire group. Familiar with the size of their platters, Jerome ordered two types of Baby Back Ribs for all of us. One was the Family Platter (Php. 650) which had two whole slabs of ribs and 3 sidings and another was the Super Duo (Php. 350) which had one whole slab of ribs and 2 sidings. We each ordered our choice sidings thus we had -- two orders of Fresh Potato Fries, two orders of Bacon and Potato Salad and one order of Garlic Spinach and Mushroom for yours truly.

Service was quite fast despite the lack of servers who can attend to our requests at the 2nd floor. For instance, we had to wait for a server to come up before asking for a pitcher of water or to get the bill. Wish they either install a call button system or station servers permanently at the 2nd floor.

Paul and I shared the Super Duo (sounds like a Globe phone plan to me! hehe) which had the Fries and Potato Salad as sidings. I was initially hesitant to try the Fries as I was eyeing the Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato but after trying a piece, I immediately changed my mind. I'm glad Paul and Jerome chose the fries as it was delicious! Crunchy on the outside and really creamy inside. I wonder how they were able to do this!

The potato salad was good but sadly paled in comparison to the fries. I was also able to try the Garlic Spinach and Mushroom which wasn't so bad too. Still, we unanimously agreed that the fries was the winning side dish that evening. I'll definitely go back for more fries and maybe try the Sprice (Spiced Fried Rice), Coleslaw or the Garlic Mashed Potato next time.

Let's put the side dishes...aside and focus on the star of the meal -- the Ribs. Slicing into the meat, I quickly noticed how tender the meat was. It actually reminds me of the same type of ribs I would enjoy at A.C. Rumpa where there's actually no need to use a knife and a fork would actually suffice. Biting into it, I love how juicy and flavorful it was which could be attributed to the marinade use and how it was grilled to perfection. Our Super Duo plate was huge! Normally, we fear sharing as we normally end up bitin (not satisfied). However, it was a different story this time. We were both so full after finishing half a rack each and consuming all side dishes too. *burp*

We didn't bother to order other entrees or nibbles (appetizers) as the ribs were quite filling already. Jerome really did an amazing job in ordering! Sadly though, since we were all so full from our ribs feast, we did not have extra space for dessert. Too bad as I was planning to try the Fried Oreos with Vanilla Ice Cream as seen from the next table. Better luck next time, Fran. :)

Frannywanny and Paul with The Knot Weddings & Events and host Jerome Go

I enjoyed the casual ambiance of Rub where we ended up chatting up until close to midnight. Paul and I feel so lucky to have an amazing group of suppliers a.k.a. our Dream Team for our BIG day and we still manage to stay in touch even after our wedding day. It was fun to relive the memories and to be able to get to know them better.

This is how it feels to finally find the one. That blissful feeling that makes your heart flutter at the very thought of it. It'll make you daydream leaving a smile on your face as your anticipate for the day that you'll see each other again. Note that this is not temporary but a feeling that will truly last a lifetime....I know..coz I found mine. ♥

Rub truly makes the world go 'round! Till we meet again! ♥
