Crazy for Green Tea at Matchaya Singapore

Matcha (抹茶) is green tea in fine powder form. It's a very popular tea blend in Japan and today, it has evolved from being in your cup of tea to all sorts of desserts and even in noodles and savory items. I just love the earthy, rich flavor of matcha most especially when I have it in it's pure form. No milk, no ice cream, just pure matcha and hot water.

A couple of months ago, Matchaya opened its first ever stall in Icon Village which is just right next door from my workplace. It took me a while to really go and try as I normally just eat in our pantry and I rarely go out for dessert or coffee. It was when I went out for lunch with my friend S that we agreed to head to Matchaya for dessert.

Matchaya is a homegrown Singaporean brand that specializes in all things matcha. They're very famous for their Matcha Milk and recently, we're all going crazy with their matcha toast and soft-served ice cream. Just keep the matcha coming, pretty please!

I tried the Matcha Milk (S$5.40/bottle) which I felt was a bit too mild for my liking. Apparently, I can opt to add another dose of matcha which I wish i did. I would have love the matcha flavor to be more evident over the milky taste. I'll make a mental note to load up on matcha next time.

On my second visit, it was on a very stressful day when I invited D to go grab some Matcha Soft Serve Ice Cream (S$6.50) with me. Yes, I was confident that ice cream can make everything alright. We were in luck as we got to Matchaya and found out that they're having the dual-flavored soft served ice cream that week! Hooray! It was a combination of black sesame (goma) and matcha. What luck! Two of my favorite flavors!

I'm happy to report that it tastes just a delicious as it looks! I was so happy as we walked back to the office with our pretty plastic cups on our hands. I love how each scoop doesn't give you that grainy texture that you normally can get from drinking or eating anything matcha. Instead, it was just so smooth and creamy, just the way I love it.

I'm so glad that we have a legit matcha place so near our office! I can't wait to go back and to try the other items on their menu.

Check out Matchaya at 12 Gopeng Street, 01-72 Icon Village, Singapore 078877. It's right next to Munch Saladsmith and The Quarters.
