Tech Talk : PLDT Home DSL

Image
*Sponsored Post* I must have mentioned a million times how technology has played a vital role in helping us cope with homesickness. Sure, we may live more than a thousand kilometers away from home but being able to get in touch with my family whenever I want to has helped ease the sadness whenever I miss them so much. s Sister Act: Me and Pan during one of our many Skype chats What's important is to have a good internet connection. The worst times are when the connection would hang and you'd be spending most of your time saying "hello? hello? can you hear me? hellooo?" rather than to update each other on how our respective days went. In today's age, technology has proven to help us make life easier. From assisting the kids in getting their home works done, to adults interacting with one another and coordinating their business too, it's not a big surprise to see home fully equipped with a broadband connection for everyone to stay connected. I have to

Just a Quick Note...

I know I haven't been blogging as regularly as I used to. Hope you all forgive me. It's just that, my most favorite season is here and my offline life is as busy as ever! Catching up with old friends, meeting a couple of new ones along the way and of course, dedicating most of our time to our families. Yes, Christmas is here and soon, we will be welcoming 2015 too! I'll be blogging sporadically but I promise to be back to regular programming come January!  From my (two) families to yours, wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy (and Yummy) New Year! ♥

Christmas Feast #3: Morganfield's Christmas Platter

Image
Merry Christmas!!! Finally my most favorite time of the year is here and I'm one happy happy girl! Lately, Paul and I have been dining with friends to celebrate the holiday season. We have just been back for a few days and so far our days are packed with get-togethers and meet-ups with family and friends whom we have been so excited to catch up and be reunited with. If there's one holiday that we promised we'll never missed, it would definitely be this. So, what are you plans for Christmas Day? If you're thinking of taking the family out for a good meal, why not go and have a feast! Morganfield's recently launched their special Morgan's Christmas Feast (S$149.90++). This is good for 4-5 or even more to share! Each platter will give you 4 grilled sausages, half slab of the Christmas Cranberry Sticky Bones, half slab of the Christmas Hazelnut Sticky Bones, tender Bourbon Marmalade Glazed Ham Slices, Smoked Turkey Legs and a wide-array of sides such as roast

Whole & Hearty in Icon Village : Healthy Breakfast Bar

Mommy would always tell us that "breakfast is the most  important meal of the day." Well, what she forgot to mention is that it can also be the most exciting one too. You see, I normally wake up feeling hungry that the first question that enters my mind is "what should I eat this morning?" So, it is always so exciting for me to plan what should I have for my first meal of the day. For the past year, breakfast for me would either be of two things: a) a bowl of instant oatmeal in chocolate or banana honey flavor b) a bowl of fruity yogurt with my favorite whole grain cereals on top Gone are the days wherein I would have rice for breakfast. Perhaps, the only times I'd have my ever-reliable silog is when I'm in Manila. Living here in the Lion City, I've become more conscious of what I eat and that includes getting into the habit of starting my day right. While I love my two breakfast options dearly, I have to admit that it can get tiring to have this

Hotel Review: Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Image
During our quick weekend getaway in Kuala Lumpur, my sister offered to make use of her accumulated miles to fully pay for our 2 nights hotel accommodation at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel . Thank goodness for jet-setting little sisters who got a substantial amount of miles that needed to be redeemed soon! The best part about this is that the choices available were really nice. It was pretty much choosing from a number of 5-star hotels in the city. What a good problem to have! Sheraton Imperial Hotel  is one of the premier hotels in Kuala Lumpur. It's located along the busy Jalan Sultan Ismail where the nearest monorel station (Medan Tuanku) is just right beside the hotel's entrance. It's quite convenient to go to the busy shopping area (Bukit Bintang) or to have some late night snack at Jalan Alor. Sadly, the KLCC area is a bit out of the way as it's too near to take a cab to but a bit too far to walk. The hotel is also beside a street called  Heritage Walk , it's

Yeast Bistronomy in Kuala Lumpur

As much as the idea of staying in bed for the entire day and to just laze around the hotel room sounds so inviting, this is normally not the case whenever I travel. For someone who loves to take it easy and slow, my travel itinerary is always planned around meals. This means, I should have breakfast, lunch and dinner plus snacks in between. No time can ever be wasted as there are just so much to try and oftentimes, so little time to do them all. So, during our quick weekend getaway to Kuala Lumpur , we were up and out of the hotel at 8am on a Saturday morning. Our breakfast destination was at Bangsar, a town located at the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. I'm guessing that this place is majority residential so it's interesting to note that there are quite a number of must-visit cafes and restaurants that recently opened in this area. One of those has been rated as one of the best brunch places in Kuala Lumpur. I guess a lot of people had the same plan of having breakfast at

They say, traveling is always a good thing. No matter how short or long the journey may be, rest assured that you'll return home richer -- not necessarily monetarily but in knowledge. The experience and the people you'll encounter along the way will give you a better idea about the country's culture, way of life and its rich history too. I'm lucky that my parents made sure that Pan and I got to travel early on in our lives. School, after all, can only teach you so much, but learning a new language or being exposed to something that's unfamiliar to us will always bring about a lot of memories and new learnings. This is also why we're such travel fanatics till this day. So, it has just been a few months since my last visit to Kuala Lumpur and there I was again last weekend. The trip was pretty much spontaneous as it just came about as I was chatting with my sister one afternoon. She commented that she hasn't been to the Petronas Towers and knowing her fa

Christmas Feast #2 at MELT, Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Image
Tis the season of endless eating *falalalala lalalalaaaaa* Here's the second installment of my Christmas Feast series in the Lion City! Recently, I had one of the yummiest lunch breaks that I've ever had in the history of my career here in Singapore. It was c/o the sweet folks over at Mandarin Oriental as I was given the chance to be part of the exclusive sneak peek of their Christmas offering. Normally, dining at MELT means indulging to our tummies delight at their famous buffet spread. This time though, I was led towards a long table where fellow bloggers and media friends were seated. Christmas, after all, is all about sharing and having the entire family together for a good meal and that's exactly what we had that day.

Chabuton Ramen Singapore in 313 Somerset

Image
I love it when friends come to visit and even more when they would take the time out to drop me a message and to spend a good meal with me and Paul! Really, I know how crazy a tourist's schedule can be so I really do try my best to make the most of the time set aside for me. I really do feel the love, dear friends. You guys know who you are. ♥ So, when my high school seat mate and good friend J flew in to Singapore for her business trip, I made it a point to do a good research on where to take her out for dinner. I'm glad that J is also such a foodie like Paul and I so she was pretty much game to go anywhere. It was perfect timing also that she came just around the time that Chabuton Ramen opened its first branch at 313 Somerset and the buzz about it went around for months! Singapore is indeed abundant when it comes to ramen places but every time one opens, expect to see a long queue outside without fail. It just goes to show how much we love our bowls of ramen just as

Christmas Feast at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, Singapore

My favorite time of the year is finally HERE! Okay, so I have officially became more of a giver than the recipient of Christmas gifts but seeing the happy look on the faces of my family and friends especially the little ones never fails to melt my heart. I'm lucky that Paul also shares the same love for this festive holiday so we enjoy doing our Christmas shopping together. Ho ho ho! Aside from the gifts, I'm also excited for the Christmas dinners that we will be attending very soon. It's the season of reuniting with dear old friends and catching up with them too. So far, my December calendar is starting to get filled up with potluck dinners, lunch meet-up, coffee chats and even our regular mother-daughters breakfast bonding. So, the inevitable question this season is " where to eat ? "  Starting this month with a series of Christmas Feast options for you to consider when planning your family dinners. Let me begin by telling you about this very festive di

It's no secret that I love food and friends can testify how I can just go on and on for hours talking about it. So, it is also not a big surprise whenever acquaintances would ask me what my favorite food is or where do I normally go to when I want a surefire delicious meal. The funny thing is, I would sometimes end up a bit stumped on what the right answer should be. I guess it's because I've dined at more a thousand restaurants all over the region and this encompasses a wide range of cuisines too. One time, I really took a few minutes to think about it and the answer simple. I love pasta. There, I said it. If there's one thing that I love to eat in this world, it would definitely be a plate of pasta preferably cooked in an oil-based sauce with mushrooms, cheese, a simple choice of meat and spices. At the end of the day, I realized, nothing beats going back to basic . Pasta, to me, is the kind of dish that I would have whenever I had a long day at work. It's a p

Common Man Coffee Roasters at Martin Road, Singapore

I know Singapore is a small country with a total land area of a little more than 700km 2  which makes it just a bit bigger than Metro Manila's 600km 2 . Add to the fact that commuting around is so easy and convenient yet I haven't really been around that much. Oh, what have I been doing this past year and a half? Take for example Robertson Quay . It's one of those must-visit places as it's filled with 3rd wave coffee shops and it's said to also be a great place to hang out in or to jog around too. I've been meaning to visit this place but laziness normally strikes the moment the weekend rolls in. I'm glad my good friend Gelats was in town and despite our crazy schedules, we agreed to meet up for a quick coffee chat. She asked me to choose the place and I went for Common Man Coffee Roasters  which has been one of the top coffee places to go to this year. Finding it was quite easy with the help of our GPS, I enjoyed walking across the colorful graffi

Three Cups Coffee Co. in One Raffles Place

Image
I'm totally loving the 3rd wave coffee trend! Imagine, 5 years back, it was just the Green Siren and a few other big coffee shop chains dominating the coffee-drinking world. Today, we're seeing the rise of more coffee aficionados showing us that there's more to life than a cup of brewed coffee with sugar and cream. I'm glad though that the 3rd wave coffee is totally booming here in Singapore as well as in Manila so wherever I go, I have the privilege of trying out one coffee shop after the other. So, after my back-to-back gym classes last week which felt oh-so- gooood , I treated myself to a light but delicious coffee break at Three Cups Coffee Co . at the 4th level of One Raffles Place. I went on a Saturday and the entire mall, which caters mostly to the CBD office crowd, was so quiet and calm. The shops were empty and even  Three Cups Coffee Co.  was also having a slow slow slow day. A bit too slow though that I can't help but get turned off by the guy mann

Good Friends Restaurant in Genting Highlands, Kuala Lumpur

Image
If there's one thing that I was truly thankful for about our trip to Kuala Lumpur , it would definitely be the fact that cousin J thought of renting a car. It just made moving around so much easier and safer too. For as long as I'm with Paul or with a more experienced left-hand driver, I'll make sure to rent a car next time I'm traveling too. So, on our 1st day in KL, we decided to head up to Genting Highlands which is a quick 1-hour drive from the city center. Paul and I have never been to Genting Highlands so we really didn't know what to expect. All we heard was the famous theme park as well as the big Resorts World casinos. The drive up reminded us of our Baguio trips only it has less dangerous curves and the road was filled with directional signages and speed humps. Finally, we reached Genting Highlands and it was a good thing that cousin B reminded us to bring our jacket as it was cold and very windy!

Back at Novotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Image
When we were sort of planning for our weekend trip to Kuala Lumpur , I'm glad that we had cousin J with us as he took care not only of booking our flights, but he went ahead and handled the booking of our hotel and he even rented a car too! He was so organized that I swear, this was the only trip where I happily tagged along without minding that we didn't had any proper itinerary and I know that we will still have a great time. Cousin J is the best travel companion, I tell you. So, when I casually asked him where we're staying in KL, he told me that he booked us all at Novotel Kuala Lumpur . Yay! If you remember, four year ago, this was also where Paul and I stayed for our honeymoon and save for the drilling and mysterious water sound, we loved the hotel's close proximity to the major shopping malls and the beautiful view of the Petronas Towers too.

Nando's Peri-Peri Chicken in KLCC, Malaysia

Image
A month ago, Paul and I flew to Kuala Lumpur for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate his birthday with his cousins. Luckily, Kuala Lumpur (KL) is a fast 55 minute flight away from Singapore making it such an ideal place to go to when we just need a vacation but barely have any work leave credits to use up. We flew out after work on a Friday and was back on Sunday night. Being a city girl, there are only two things that I love to do in Kuala Lumpur -- to shop and to eat . Of course, there's gawking at the beautiful Petronas Towers in the process too. I'm not really fond of hiking up any mountain, nor coming face to face with monkey or birds so as I was planning for our weekend trip, I've basically scrap all those out from the list. It worked out well for us though as we just wanted to have a relaxing weekend anyway. So, on our last day in KL, cousin B requested if we can have lunch at Nando's . She loves the Chicken Liver very much and after hearing her raves ab

Here's some Monday musing: Moving to a new country is like having a new life.  It's definitely a big leap of faith as you pack your suitcases and temporarily say good bye to your old life. The kind that you've grown to be so familiar and comfortable with. Then you land in a new, unfamiliar place with perhaps a few acquaintances here and there. They're definitely not the same old gang whom you've been hanging with every single day but then that means giving you the chance to build a better relationship with them and to find new friends too. It's normal that for someone who used to be so socially active, your social life in this new place can drop to zero for the first few weeks or months. Here's my advice, embrace the change with a smile . It will make adjusting so much more easier. Personally, I enjoyed my new peaceful and quiet life where I finally found the time to focus on myself for a change. It has been a year of learning new things, being more inde

Shopping Find : Conservo Luggage Covers in Singapore

Remember the time when I first discovered this awesome and hip luggage covers from Conservo ? Well, I've received a number of emails and inquiries from readers not only in the Philippines but also here in Singapore asking me how to avail of it. Here's a piece of good news -- readers here in Singapore can now purchase these gorgeous luggage covers and to have it delivered straight to your doorstep (or at least to your mailbox). At the moment, there are only 5 pieces on sale: Small (S$25) : Ecliptic and Spectrum Medium (S$30) : Brilliant Travels, Ecliptic and Spectrum *price is not inclusive of shipping fee

Burrito Party at Muchachos in Keong Saik Road

Image
One burrito, two burrito, three burrito... OLE!  I just hate it when colleagues leave. Most especially those who are really close to me. So, when my friend and fellow kababayan in the office J told me that he's leaving, I was in disbelief. You see, I've known J for a little more than a year yet I'll never forget how welcoming he was on my first week in the office. It's so cool too that he shares the same name as Paul's favorite action star so my goal was really to make them meet right away. However, who am I to stand in the way of career growth and success? I wished J all the best and we promised to keep in touch. We didn't let him go without saying a proper goodbye and for us, this means going out for a nice and delicious lunch. For J, we headed to Muchachos  which is my colleagues' go-to Mexican place. I've been hearing about this restaurant but since it's not that accessible from our old office, I never really got around to walking all the

Joie by Dozo in Orchard Central

Image
I have to hand it to my parents for teaching me and Pan to appreciate eating vegetables at a young age. I remember that back then, there's never a day that would pass that there won't be any kind of vegetable dish in our meal. Of course, as kids, we were still picky then. Choosing the leafy ones such as spinach, lettuce, broccoli over the gooey and slimy ones (eg: eggplant, okra and bittergourd). As we grew up, that's when our taste buds began to appreciate more flavors and today, I can proudly say that I'm just down to not liking peas, carrots and okra which I don't think will ever be well-suited to my taste...ever. So, when I received an invite to visit Joie by Dozo and to try its 7-course meatless dinner, I was pretty much excited for it. After all, I've been trying to eat more greens since I moved to the Lion City and this invite was simply perfect timing. The restaurant is located at the rooftop garden of Orchard Central giving it an all-zen vibe. J

Playing Favorites: Drury Lane in Tanjong Pagar Road

Image
♫ Oh, do you know the muffin man, The muffin man, the muffin man, Do you know the muffin man, Who lives in Drury Lane? ♫ I think I have just found my favorite lunch cafe here in the Lion City! It all began when I received a message from fellow blogger Jane telling me that her friend and also a fellow blogger Leng is coming to Singapore and will soon be relocating here after she ties the knot with her beloved Plaid Boy next year. Of course, I excitedly said yes as I just love meeting new friends here. So Leng and I exchanged quick hi's and hellos and we began planning for our lunch meet-up. Since I can't go really far from the office, I'm glad that my work area is brimming with so much food options making it easier (or shall I say harder) for us to choose our lunch date venue. Then I spotted Drury Lane  which was just down the road from the Tanjong Pagar Plaza . I figured that it would a quick walk from the MRT too so it would be too much of a hassle for Leng. Coinciden

Keisuke Gyoza King in Orchid Hotel, Tanjong Pagar

Image
Someday I wish to meet Chef Keisuke Takeda and when that moment comes, I'll tell him that I'm such a big fan and I think that he's such a foodie genius. You see, Chef Keisuke has opened a total of 6 different restaurant concepts here in Singapore and I was able to try half of it already. The first was purely accidental. I was really new here and with my birthday coming up, I just made a quick research on where's the newest ramen shop in town. This brought me to Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King Four Seasons  that was the first time that the NKids have ever tried this restaurant and we all loved it! In fact, this particular branch has been on top of our list when it comes to saying where's the best ramen in Singapore. Then, on the first day in our new office, my colleagues and I tried Ramen Keisuke Tori King . I never thought I'll ever like Chicken Ramen as I would imagine it to be served like a Chicken Macaroni Soup. Safe, bland and boring. Well, to say that Chef

Brewerkz in Riverside Point, Clarke Quay

I really like it when our friend A is in town. This is because it gives the NKids a perfect reason to go out on a weeknight to try a new place for dinner. It was also perfect timing that it was  I 's birthday not so long ago so a post celebration was in order. We had it at one of her favorite restaurants here in the Lion City -- Brewerkz , a microbrewery and a restaurant bar all in one! A quick check on my Entertainer App and I realized that I got 1-for-1 vouchers for all main dishes too! I'm truly loving my Entertainer App as it allows me to try the different restaurants in Singapore for half the price. Since we all wanted meat, we decided to get two orders of the 3 Big Pigs (S$84) platter. It's a HUGE sharing platter that consists of Pork Knuckles , BBQ Kielbasa Sausages and BBQ Pork Ribs . It came with a scoop of creamy mashed potato and an array for sauces that best complements the three meats. Among the three, I enjoyed the ribs the most. It's because it w

Bulletin Board: Ultimate Hawker Fest 2014

Image
It has been said over and over again how Singapore is Asia's food mecca. With a wide selection of gastronomic options here, eating in the Lion City is always something that one can look forward to. Ask anyone from locals to foreigners on what is their favorite Singaporean dish and most likely you'll get one that is readily available at any hawker centre. You see, the history of hawker centres dates back to the 1970s as part of the government's plan to clean up the street and to provide a better dining establishment for both the vendors and customers alike. I'd say that these hawker centres played a vital role in Singapore's growth to what it is today. To honor these hawker heroes, a couple of my fellow food bloggers, Derrick, Maureen and Ian, created a fun one-day event called the Ultimate Hawker Fest that is happening on the 22nd of November 2014 in  Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre . Participants of this event will be able to taste the

Group Therapy in Duxton Road, Singapore

Image
I always believe in one thing: " No Man is an Island. " This quote is pretty much self-explanatory. It tells us that in life, we need people to be there for us. Being an extrovert, I know for a fact that I won't survive without Paul, my parents and sister, my in-laws, my extended family and my friends as well. You don't need an entire community to be there for you but to have that small and big circles of trust is enough to make life worth living. For one thing, a fun lunch is impossible to have without friends there to share it with. Which is why I'm mighty thankful for my favorite lunch crew namely G, D and K (whom I miss so much) . I love how they're always so game to go out and try a new restaurant or cafe with me. So recently, when our friend C was back in Singapore from China, a nice get-together lunch was in order. Her only request was to look for a place with free Wi-Fi. That was easy! I went through my Entertainer app and found Group Therapy , a

Hello Kitty Run Singapore 2014 - - What can we learn from this?

Image
Months ago, I chanced upon another Facebook post (I swear, I must be the target audience of these fitness ads!) about the first-ever Hello Kitty Fun Run here in Singapore. This was to celebrate Hello Kitty's 40th Birthday and being a big Kitty fan that I am, I quickly filled up the sign up form even with no specific details on when the run will be and where it will be held. Yes, I was THAT big a fan. Days after that, a more detailed website announcement was put up where it led us to do our final confirmation and to really sign up for the race. It was a 5K fun run in Sentosa on the 1st of November . With no marathon experience whatsoever in the past, I just took a deep breath and hit that submit button to confirm my participation and quickly paid the S$65 participation fee too. Fast forward to last Friday, they started handing out the cutest race kits that I've ever seen! Paul was the one who went to claim for me and he said that he was impressed at how organized the di

The 240 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

I'd say that one of the most important questions to answer when planning for a trip is: where to stay ? This is where your main priorities come into play. Are you a seasoned budget traveler who don't mind staying in a simple hotel or even to rent a room from Air BnB? Perhaps, you're more like me, a pro-leisure tourist who values comfort and cleanliness above all. Don't get me wrong, it's just that for me, my choice of hotel is important as this is essentially my home away from home throughout the duration of my trip. Nothing beats being able to head back to a nice, spacious and clean room which is complete with all the amenities and facilities after a tiring day exploring the city. Of course, not all the time I can just indulge and stay in a classy hotel. This is where I'm so thankful for boutique hotels. Small-sized hotels with about a dozen rooms yet you are still well taken cared of and every corner, every room is just sparkling clean. As we were planning

La Rose Restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Image
One of the best decisions that we've made during our trip to Cambodia was to hire David as our tour guide. You see, there are no cabs around both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap so to go around either you walk or take a tuktuk. Since there were 7 of us, it was wise to avail of a full shuttle service that will allow us to follow our own schedule and to be able to maximize on our itinerary too. It was indeed worth every penny as we were all well taken cared of complete with a daily supply of ice cold water. If only David can supply Wi-Fi in his van too to save us from boredom during the 6 hours drive from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and back, that would have just been perfect. Well, you can't have it all. So, on our first day, after visiting the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center / Killing Fields , we asked our driver Sim to recommend a good Khmer restaurant for lunch. Sim immediately knew where to take us and off we went to La Rose Restaurant. To be honest, I've never heard of La Rose

Cocina Cartel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

One thing why I love traveling with the NKids is because we all love to EAT! No kidding. During our trip to Cambodia , our bags were all filled with chips, snacks, drinks and even chocolates to ensure that no one goes hungry at any point in time. We try to make the most of each meal by researching well on the different restaurants to try both in Phnom Penh and in Siem Reap . I will be sharing with you where we went to eat during our trip but let me jump to our very last meal in Phnom Penh . Since we took the late afternoon flight, we had the chance to leisurely have a good lunch before heading to the airport. Our hotel is surrounded by a number of interesting cafes and restaurants that the challenge actually was to choose only two from close to ten options. Since we've been having local Khmer food for the past days, we decided to deviate from it for our last meal. The choice was to try Cocina Cartel , said to be one of the best Mexican restaurants not only in Cambodia but in A

Phnom Pehn, Cambodia : Travel Spots to Visit

Image
After a year of no new travels aside from our regular trips between Manila and Singapore, Paul and I finally got back to our yearly travel routine. Yahoo! Normanton Kids in Cambodia A few months ago, we joined the NKids for our first ever out of the country trip to Cambodia ! Planning started months in advance where C and I took charge of researching and coordinating with our very reliable tour guide David. It was a 5 days trip where we flew to Phnom Pehn and headed directly to Siem Reap where we spent 3 wonderful days and later went back to Phnom Pehn again for a full day before flying back to Singapore. With David handling all the on-ground logistics, this has made our itinerary so smooth flowing and totally stress-free.  This is the start of my Cambodia Travel Series where I shall tell you about the different sites that we were able to visit around Phnom Penh .  For most of my readers who probably have read my past travel entries, you may have noticed that I'm

Soulscape Singapore 2014 [Event Coverage]

I strongly believe in the saying that "health is wealth" . After all, the worst thing is to spend your hard-earned money on medications and hospitalizations when you can try to avoid all these in the first place. I'm glad that as I'm trying to up my physical activity level lately, I'd come across local activities that would challenge me to go even further. No more excuses now and I'm learning to push myself to the limits and to see what else I can do. A month ago, I came across a Facebook sponsored ad about a fun yoga and wellness event in Tanjong Beach Club, Sentosa . The name is Soulscape Singapore and browsing through their website, I was immediately drawn towards the two exclusive yoga sessions -- Sunset Yoga and Yoga Rave . It was to be conducted by True Yoga making it even more enticing. I asked my dear friend D, who has been a great influence to me to eat healthy and to stay fit, if she wants to join as well. It only took D a few minutes to brow

Recipe : Fusilli with Mushroom Pesto Cream Sauce (Vegetarian)

Image
Singapore celebrated Deepavali / Diwali last Wednesday so we had a full day off from work! Since the non-working holiday was right in the middle of the week and I badly needed to catch up on sleep as we came from a quick weekend trip, Paul and I agreed to just spend the entire day at home with our friend O. The night before that, I told the boys that I'll cook pasta for lunch. It has been a while since I've cooked this dish and I'm glad that finally, I found the time to do so. Cooking can really be so therapeutic. Some of you may have remembered that I've prepared a similar pasta dish 5 years ago . This time though, I made use of wholemeal fusilli noodles and made use of a different type of pesto sauce too. What I noticed is that wholemeal noodles have a more dry texture and it has a rather grainy bite. It's not too bad though but it sure needs some getting used to. Well, I'm really so careful now with the carbs that I eat every since I vow to go with a low

Spilling the (Coffee) Beans : Whale & Cloud, Niven Road

Image
Who doesn't love to hear a good secret? I'm pretty sure we all do.  Not so long ago, word has been going around about this "secret" coffee shop here in the Lion City. You see, the 3rd wave / artisan coffee trend is booming here with at least one coffee shop opening every week. There are just a lot right now that I was so happy when fellow food blogger Daniel came up with a comprehensive list of all the new cafes in Singapore for 2014 . Daniel is one of the few food bloggers whom I diligently follow to know about the new restaurants in the city. He writes in such an objective and really organized manner that makes the OC in me really happy.  Anyway, so Daniel and a couple of bloggers began talking about a secret coffee shop called Whale & Cloud and that opens only on Saturday. In fact, it's not open on all Saturdays too! All these talks got me really curious and after asking more details about it, Paul and I decided to spend one Saturday afternoon to t
