Wine and Dine at Bistro 1855 at Suntec City

Here's the best way to end a busy work day -- Top a wooden board with an assortment of cheeses, fill up your wine glass with your favorite bubbly, bring in a good mix of friends and do this repeatedly whenever you feel like it.

It was only Tuesday but Paul and I were both so excited for this fun food tasting at Bistro 1855 with the folks from Entertainer App. At one side of the restaurant, you'll find the Bottle Shop where you choose from a wide-selection of wines and decide later on if you'd like to enjoy this with your meal in the restaurant or to bring it home. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I suddenly remembered my friend I whom I know would definitely love love love this place.

You see, I do enjoy a glass of wine but I'm no wine connoisseur as I can't really tell most of the wines apart aside from its color. However, I do appreciate a nice glass of white wine together with a meal which normally consists of seafood more than anything. Well, I learned that Bistro 1855 would hosts wine tastings every so often. Maybe I should enroll myself in one of those sessions to elevate my knowledge and appreciation for wine.

For now, let me talk about that one thing that I know better about -- FOOD.

Our dinner began with a basket of Rustic Fries (S$8). Thick cut fries that were deep-fried to perfection (read: crisp) and served with their special bravas sauce. It has a creamy, spicy, tangy flavor as bravas sauce is a traditional spicy tomato cream sauce that's usually served with deep-fried potatoes.

The fries was immediately followed by the 1855 Chicken Wings (S$8). Yummy 6-piece chopped wings which had a really flavorful marinade and glaze. This can be quite addicting so make sure to order a lot especially when you're dining with a big group. The last thing you want to happen is have 10 of you fighting over that last two pieces of wings! I love the sweet-soy teriyaki glaze most especially and the flavor has successfully penetrated through the chicken meat leaving me licking my lips after cleaning out my chicken wings down to the bone.

Love Chinese Food? No problem! Bistro 1855 has the Crispy Pork Belly (S$10) which admittedly feels a bit out of place in such a hip resto-bar but hey, who doesn't love pork belly right? I just find this to be leaning towards the fatty side and the cut was a bit too thin to be fully savored. Nonetheless, the Asian coleslaw that came with it was pretty good.

In between the line of starters and our two main dishes, out came the Cheese Platter (S$25). I love the fact that they have added in a mix of soft and hard cheeses. As you know you really can't please everyone but I do appreciate restaurants who'd take the extra effort to please as much patrons as they could. Our platter came with Camembert, blue cheese and two hard cheese.

We moved on to our main dish. First was the Duck Confit (S$20). Not a fan of this dish and I think it was the least impressive compared to everything else that were served. Somehow the meat was very dry and it had this weird taste that I cannot determine what exactly it was. It's a mix of bitter, gamey flavor that wasn't very pleasant, to say the least.

Lastly, we had Lamb Shank (S$26) which was a surprising revelation! I was a bit cautious towards the lamb seeing that the duck failed our expectations. As I was forking over the meat, I immediately noticed how it easily fell off the bone. Slow braised in red wine sauce, even the mashed potato below it was delicious. This just got be be one of my favorite dishes in Bistro 1855.

It was a fun relaxing night hanging out with old friends and getting to know new ones. I'm so glad that I got 3 1-for-1 coupons in my Entertainer app where I can go back with the NKids for them to also try Bistro 1855.
