Hairspray comes to Manila!

This is a story about a young 16-year old girl named Tracy Turnblad who dreams of being part of The Corny Collins Show, the coolest dance program on TV. Luckily, she finally got her chance and became a teen celebrity overnight. Of course, just like every story, Tracy finds herself with a dilemma as she competes against the show's reigning princess for the title Miss Teenage Hairspray 1962. Will she eventually succeed?

Based on the movie that stars Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes, Atlantis Production is staging this fun, musical story right here in Manila!

Featuring the very talented, Madel Ching as Tracy Turnblad, she will be joined by renowned actor Michael de Mesa as Edna, Dulce as Motormouth Maybelle, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as Velma Von Tussle, Nyoy Volante as Seaweed J. Stubbs and a lot more.

I am so excited to watch Madel as this will be her professional theater debut and I'm sure she'll definitely impress everyone with her talent!

Hairspray is directed by Bobby Garcia, choreography by Cecile Martinez, sets and costumes by Gino Gonzales, lighting design by Shoko Matsumoto and Musical Director Archie Castillo conducts FILharmoniKA. It runs from Nov. 14 to Dec. 7 at the Star Theatre, CCP Complex. Tickets are on sale now by calling Atlantis Productions at 892-7078, 840-1187 or Ticketworld at 891-9999.

As a parent, I have one thing that I dread the most and that's when any of my kids fall sick. From the moment we detect the faintest sniffle followed by sneezes and runny nose, we know one thing is for sure -- we will be having a couple of sleepless nights. For twins, it is very common that when one falls sick, expect the other one to follow suit in just a matter of days, sometimes within hours even.  A few years ago, my twins would catch a cold and we really would struggle because they'd become very fussy and cranky at night. #YolandaPH : How to Help?

Times like this, I really wish I was just having a bad dream..a really really bad dream. This is because, in dreams, you eventually wake up and realized that nothing has changed. Sadly, when Super Typhoon Haiyan (a.k.a. Yolanda) hit my dear country, the Philippines , last Friday it surely wasn't a dream nor was it even a terrible nightmare. It's an awful reality leaving thousands (and I'm talking around 10,000+) dead and a lot more missing. Families were torn apart, children separated from their parents, parents looking for their children, pets, homes, even public structures and farm lands were not spared. I honestly didn't know much about the gravity of this disaster up until I watched our local news the following day. As scenes unfold before my eyes, I felt my heart crushing into tiny pieces. Tears started to flow as I watch the survivors crying in anguish as they continue to search for their loved ones. It has been 5 days since Haiyan left the country yet the pain...
