Visiting Uncle Cheffy at the Ortigas Center

There are times when you just want to let your guard down and to just be able to relax, have fun with friends and most importantly, have a good and truly satisfying meal. My first encounter with Uncle Cheffy was last year when my sister-in-law chose to celebrate her birthday at their Burgos Circle branch. I helped her order our lunch and I was really happy with the two choices of thin-crust panizza and the seafood dishes that we got for the family to share.

There were just so many restaurants and so little time that it has been 5 months since our last visit. I can't believe it took us this long to be able to go back to Uncle Cheffy again..what a terrible "nephew" and "niece" we were!

So there we were, one weeknight at Uncle Cheffy in Ortigas Center with dear friends Richard and Irene. It was a fun double date and we were there ready to feast on Uncle Cheffy's house specialties. Dinner began with the Uncle Cheffy Salad (Php. 175/230). I love eating fresh greens and most especially enjoy having this to start my meal. Call it silly but eating a plate full of greens somehow lessens the guilt of me having Lechon and lots of carbs later on.

The salad was delicious. I love the mix of crisp lettuce, creamy potatoes, asparagus and (surprise, surprise!) pork belly! Ack! Not so guilt-less after all but hey, I ate two plates nonetheless. It was delicious and I'm definitely going back for more of this.

Next came the two pans of Uncle Cheffy's Panizza. We had a total of four flavor -- Seafood Lovers Panizza, Larry's Craving, All Meat Barbecue and Uncle Cheffy Favorite Panizza. The first two had salmon on it which I really love. The Seafood Lover's Panizza (Php. 125/220/425) has salmon, shrimps, clams, squid, herbs, onions and three kinds of cheeses. The Larry's Craving (Php. 130/250/495), on the other hand, has smoked salmon, escargot, shiitake mushroom, chili flakes and three kinds of cheese. Between the two, I prefer the Larry's Craving flavor more. I really am a big fan of smoked salmon and they were pretty generous with the serving, if I should say.

I love how thin and cheesy their panizzas are. It makes it more flavorful and so addicting to munch on. I skipped the All Meat Barbeque (Php. 130/235/450) due to the inclusion of the beef teriyaki but from the looks of it, this pizza will surely wow the meat-lovers out there.

Uncle Cheffy Favorites Panizza (Php. 125/200/395) was also a crowd pleaser. I love how light this pizza flavor is with oven-dried tomatoes, mushroom, garlic, anchovy, basil, chili and three types of cheese. This is perfect for my Mom who loves her pizza topped with veggies.

I had a total of three small slices and after, I was starting to fill quite stuffed. I can't believe we will have our main entrees up ahead.

We had the Garlic Studded Pork Belly Lechon (Php. 95 per 100g). Talk about sinful. I love the crunchy skin and the tender meat. Their homemade liver sauce goes so well with salsa as it perks up the already flavorful taste of the lechon.

We also had the Lamb Breast Provencal Way (Php. 110 per 100g) was good however I find the skin a bit too chewy. Hope they removed this part to make this dish even more enjoyable. This is served with side salad, marble potatoes and their homemade sauce.

Lastly, we had the Asian Fried Rice (Php. 120/220) to go with our meats. One serving is really big making this perfect for big groups and families.

Since I had way too much carbs for that evening thanks to their delicious panizzas, I decided to just have a small bowl of fried rice. Still, I was able to enjoy the delicious fluffy rice mixed with scrambled egg, tomatoes and leeks. It reminds me of my favorite budbod rice that I normally would have for lunch back in college. I'm definitely ordering again this on my next visit.

As we got to dessert, I hardly could take in a bite. I tried the Cheffy Cheesecake (Php. 150) and the Chocolate Roulade (Php. 150) which were quite delicious.

It's my friend Irene has increased the benchmark for cheesecake, it took me a while to get used to this less cheesy version as opposed to my friend's cheesy Queso de Bola Cheesecake.

The Chocolate Roulade had mango yogurt stuffed inside and covered with chocolate cake coating. A unique dessert that's perfect for all mango and chocolate lovers out there.

Here are some things that makes Uncle Cheffy Ortigas Center really unique:

- Unlike other Uncle Cheffy branches where the serving is good for big groups, this particular branch has smaller serving sizes. This is perfect for office people who wants to spend some me-time over their lunch break.

- Long Happy Hour : 2PM to 10PM. Don't worry about missing the happy hour as you get to head over and party at Uncle Cheffy after work.

- They have function rooms good for 20-25 pax which is great for corporate meetings and functions. In fact, you can rent out the entire restaurant and fit up to 200 pax in there!

I'm glad that Uncle Cheffy is finally expanding more and more and the fact that this particular branch is the closest one to where I work. I can't wait to go back to have the Panizza, Fried Rice, the moouth-watering Pork Belly Lechon and more!!
