That was the first thing I asked my sister when she picked us up from the airport a few days ago. Pan exactly knew what was the new that I was referring to and she filled me in on the newly opened restaurants that have been creating buzz around town. As she spoke, I was busy listing down the restaurants as I can't afford to miss out on a great restaurant to try given my very short visit.
I wasted no time and immediately invited my friends D and S out for our much-awaited catch up dinner at Guevarra's. It's a good thing that D was able to make reservations as the place was packed on a Thursday night. While I normally feel eerie towards old houses, the way Guevarra's was set-up made me admire how pretty this traditional Filipiniana home was converted into. It was well-lit, OPM music was blaring (yes, literally blaring that it was quite hard to have a good conversation) from the speakers, air-conditioning was just right and there was zero eerie feeling at all. In fact, it made me feel like I was attending a grand aunt's lavish birthday party.
Over-all, Guevarra's has still a lot of improvements needed to be done for their food. They have nailed the ambiance, service was okay and the price was very reasonable. Sadly though, people go back for the food and while there were a couple of dishes which I find to be pretty good, there was really none that would make me go back to Guevarra's right away.

Chef Laudico Guevarra's is located at 387 P. Guevarra, San Juan City. Reservation is highly recommended. Call them at 705-1811, 0917-3112222. Coming from Wilson, turn left as you see Santi's/Mini Stop. Go straight pass the traffic light after Cafe Ysabel, take the right most lane, keep on going straight. Guevarra's will be at your left.
Hi Fran, dined and tried Guverra's by Chef Laudico last night (Sunday).
ReplyDeleteNot similar to your experience, ours had a line, especially in the meat corner (lechon, liempo and gindara stations) of the restaurant. The buffet table became too crowded when it reached past 7. Same experience when people finished eating and began their desserts. Should have more space for flow of diners.
Food - nothing exemplary as well. Maybe I'm also not a big fan of Filipino food? Some were good though - gindara, pork lechon, some "I forget the name" appetizer placed in a shot glass and a few of their desserts - suman ball, ice cream corner, halo halo shooter and frozen brazo de mercedes. Last 2 desserts are not available in the desserts station, since they've to be served chilled. Food - I like Bistro more and the ala carte style of it all.
Agree though. The place is wonderful! Very antique yet very sophisticated. Plus, it has a lot of parking space. Big plus also is a very intimate outdoor space by the garden where people can hang out when they're smoking or after they dine indoors.
This post made me hungry. Will check out this place soon. :)That Spinach Penne Pasta looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely checking out the place. Keep posting so I would know what to try. Thanks-
