Feng Wei Wee at Wilson street, San Juan

In anticipation of our upcoming trip, Paul and I decided to have lunch at Feng Wei Wee which is our neighborhood's Taiwanese food stop. We've dined here before back when they used to have a different type of interiors and manner of service.

A year ago, you enter Feng Wei Wee and see a serving area where you basically have to point out the things you like and the server will gladly serve this to you. Thus, in Tagalog, it's called Turo-turo.

Today, Paul and I were surprised that there was no service area showing the dishes and they have a more cozy-looking interior design with a couch on one side and better looking seats around. It's just like any other restaurant where the server hands you the menu and you choose from there.

They surely have expanded their menu choices that I had a hard time deciding what to get for our lunch. I initially wanted the Taiwan Fried Rice as fellow blogger Leslie has been raving about this. Unfortunately, they were out of Chinese Sausage thus we felt would defeat the purpose of making this fried rice different.

We got the Taiwan Kiampung (Php. 70) which was exactly what we got before. I love the sticky consistency and how they have added a generous scoop of peanuts on top. This rice is loaded with mushroom and pork. It's quite filling that it's a good thing we just ordered a bowl to share.

To go with the rice, I also ordered a bowl of Steamed Pork (Php. 140). To be honest, I got this because I was lured by the photo on the menu but in reality, it looks nothing like the photo. We were quite pleased with this though as it tasted pretty good. It reminds me of my favorite beef ball from Gloria Maris but has a meaty consistency. I'm not so fond of steamed salted egg that I had to scrape the pieces off my slice of Steamed Pork to which Paul happily ate them all. :)

Lastly, our Feng Wei Wee staple -- Steamed Dumplings (Php. 120/8 pieces). I was surprise of the slight price increase from the time we last dined there still we didn't mind as we both love their steamed dumplings. I just find the sauce a tad too salty which in effect I normally would just eat it plain with my Kiampung. Paul loves the fact that it's filled with lots of kuchay which we both love so much.

The food in general is quite bland thus the need for extra sauce or dipping. I'm not sure if this is really typical of Taiwanese food -- this I'll find out in a couple of days. :) Nonetheless, we're happy that Feng Wei Wee has improved their interiors and added in more food choices for us to enjoy a Taiwanese meal anytime.

I will definitely go back to try their Taiwanese Fried Rice and other dishes as well.
