Exactly a year ago, Paul and I spent our first night as husband and wife at the Discovery Suites in Ortigas. I remembered how surprised we were upon entering our 1-bedroom suite to see a bottle of wine on our table and as we walked towards our bathroom, the entire floor and bath tub was filled with red rose petals. We were speechless yet our hearts were screaming words of gratitude towards the very thoughtful staff of Discovery Suites.
Today, we celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and instead of flying out of the country or taking a long drive out of town, we decided to book a night once again at Discovery Suites, thanks to the amazing deal that we got from Deal Grocer. I got the 2nd to the last coupon for a 1-bedroom suite stay with breakfast for 2 for only half the price.
From the moment we checked-in and as we were assisted by Front Desk Officers Emily and AC, we were surprised when AC greeted us a happy anniversary. I asked him how he knows and he just gave us a mysterious smile and say "we know everything ma'am". Instantly, I thought of my dear friend Gemma who heads the marketing team of Discovery Suites. Looks like Gemma and team has something up their sleeves again!
As they were preparing our room, we were given our welcome drinks. Delicious mango juice which was truly refreshing and perfect as we just spent the entire morning manning our stall at Mercato Centrale.
Emily led us up to our suite at the 14th floor and as she opened the door, we immediately saw the sweet signage that they have prepared for us! Funny though, they have addressed the message to MY parents but still it was the thought that truly counts.
I walked around the room and saw the framed photo that they have placed on our study desk. Don't you just love how they have customized the room for us?
Let me walk you through our beautiful one-bedroom suite:
Our bedroom with the Queen-sized bed
Our bathroom with bath tub and amazing shower head
The Kitchen area complete with electric stove, microwave oven and toaster.
We had a lot of time before heading out for dinner so we decided to also walk around the hotel and to check out the different amenities.
The pool may be small but it sure looks inviting
Then came the BIG surprise...
We had a filling and delicious dinner at YakiMix at the Podium Mall which was located right across the hotel. We enjoyed grilling and trying out plates after plates of sushi, sashimi and ice cream. I will tell you more about our dinner in my next entry.
From the moment we entered our room, Paul and I felt so touched with the signage and the framed photo on our study desk. Little did we know that Discovery Suites still had a lot of surprises for us the moment we got back from dinner.
As we entered our bed room we were surprised to see a beautiful swan towel art placed on top of our bed with a long-stemmed red rose. I found it soooo cute that I happily took out my camera and clicked away.
Paul headed to the bathroom where he saw white and blue rose petals scattered all over the floor and once again, our bath tub set for us to dip in. See the heart on the floor?
We settled on the couch as we relax to watch TV when someone came knocking on our door. We looked at each other and wondered who could it be. I opened and saw another Front Desk Officer, Jay who presented us with a bottle of wine. I love his warm smile and how he excitedly gave us their present.
Truly, the surprises never ends!
We love Discovery Suites and while they may not have the biggest bed or a fully carpeted flooring normally found in 5-star hotels, we will continue to stay loyal to them simply because of their customized service and how they would go the extra mile to make our stay special. I enjoyed our comfy bed where I slept like a baby for more than 10 hours. The pillows were soft yet it won't give you any stiff neck. I woke up the next day wishing we can extend our stay.
Breakfast at Restaurant5
Our stay includes complimentary breakfast for two at Restaurant 5. We got there around 9 and were surprised to see the restaurant pack with hotel guests, mostly we felt were also local residents. We were led to our table and were given the go signal to head to the buffet spread. The choices were pretty limited but they got the basics covered as they have baskets of bread, a few cheese options and the usual Filipino breakfast dishes with garlic rice and three choices of meat. At the far end of the restaurant, they have a lot of drink options for you. We both got glasses of our favorite Orange Juice and Paul, later on, tried the fresh Watermelon Juice which he enjoyed as well.
What I enjoyed the most was the egg station where Paul and I specifically requested for our omelet to just have egg whites with our preferred veggies and meat. I'm glad that we got what we have requested for as the both of us are not fond of egg yolk thus we can be pretty choosy with our egg dishes.
I also enjoyed the hashed brown and cold cuts. The bacon, longganisa and aglio olio pasta could still use some improvement though but the breakfast was filling enough nonetheless.
Save for that one tiny boo-boo made by the restaurant receptionist where she gave our table to the next guest leaving us table-less for a good 2 minutes as she frantically searched around for an available table to give to us, the food and service somehow made up for this incident.
Discovery Suites is a perfect choice for those who wants to take a short break for the weekend. It's a great way to create a mini vacation without leaving town. We will continue to patronize Discovery Suites and Paul even told me that our room choices will continue to grow bigger as our future family grows as well. For now, the One-bedroom suite was perfect for just the two of us. ♥
