Love is in the air at Umu, Dusit Thani Manila

Through this blog, I was able to chronicle how we have been celebrating our Valentine's Day for the past 4 years. First, there was that delicious pasta dinner at Pizzeria Toscana in 2008 and then we went Filipino over at Bagoong Club last 2009. While in 2010, we satisfied our craving of ribs at Tony Roma's . Despite how we would seem to just do the same thing every year, which is to dine out, I always look forward to this red-letter day as I know each Valentine's date is always special with Paul. All the more, I was really excited this year as it will be our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. Before going to bed last Friday, Paul decided that we're having our Valentine's lunch date the next day at Umu in Dusit Thani Manila . Even how much I'd still like to sleep till noon, the thought of enjoying platters of sushi and teppanyaki dishes made me really excited. At 11PM last Friday, my tummy was growling loudly, perhaps it's its way of ...

Kampai! Enjoying a Sake Degustation Menu at Umu

Ever since our stay last December 2009, I've grown very fond of Dusit Thani Manila due to its beautiful grand lobby, accessibility to two major shopping malls (Ayala Center and SM) , beautiful guest rooms and most of all, the food as dining at any of its restaurants has always been a delightful experience . I was back at the hotel again as I was invited to join a special Japanese dinner at Umu . I immediately confirmed my attendance and made sure I won't be late for my dinner date. At the start of the program, the head chef performed the Kagami-biraki which is the traditional way usually done in celebratory events where the chef used a wooden mallet to signal the start of the party and all guests will be served with a cup of sake. As we await our first dish, we were given a glass of cold Zipang (Sparkling Sake) which was very smooth and light. Sake is to Japan as wine is to France. This can normally be seen in dinner tables as Japanese would have this while enjoying t...

It was around last November when I received an email from my colleague B. It was an announcement ad for an exciting blog contest by Dusit Thani Manila . What was at stake was an overnight stay at their Presidential Suite plus a couple of GCs from their restaurants, spa and gym! It was definitely worth a try :) Keeping my eyes on the prize I'm a pretty determined person especially when I have my heart and mind on it. I wanted to win the grand prize so badly...not the second or the third prize. I am aiming for the Grand Prize and I'm praying and working hard for it. For extra luck, Paul even took my photo posing in front of the Presidential Suite during our stay last December. After that amazing overnight stay at Dusit Thani Manila , I wrote two entries that I felt best describe that wonderful experience. I'm sharing it with everyone once again: Dusit Thani Manila : Feels like Heaven on Earth Sunday Family Crossover Buffet : A Feast for the Senses Not so long ago, I got a ca...

Sunday Family Crossover Buffet : A Feast for the Senses

December 27, 2009 (Makati City, Philippines) -- Seriously taking our plan, which is to relax the entire weekend , seriously; we woke up just in time for brunch today. After hearing raves from colleagues and friends who frequently visit Dusit Thani Manila on a Sunday, we were so excited to try out their Sunday Family Crossover Buffet ourselves. Following the brief instructions of the front desk officer, we visited the four participating restaurants to choose and reserve our table. After visiting Basix , Umu , Benjarong and Tosca , we both agreed to stay at the latter simply because of its cozy ambiance complete with a pianist happily playing Christmas tunes. Contrary to other buffets and restaurants in town, here you have to pay first. After leading you to your table, the server will hand you the bill. The charge per head is very reasonable. Pay only P1450 net for adults, P725 for children between 6-12 years old while tiny tots below 5 years old can dine for FREE! After settl...

December 26, 2009 (Makati City, Philippines) -- Today is our 74th monthsary! I guess for most couples, they have stopped counting monthsaries the moment they turned a year old together. Not for us though, we continue to celebrate every single month as a couple. I guess we just love to find every possible reason to celebrate and be merry! Feeling my need to relax and get pampered, Paul surprised me with an overnight stay at the lovely Dusit Thani Manila . Located right at the heart of busy Makati City, I was amazed at the beautiful interiors that reminded me of our recent trip to Bangkok . With its golden walls and intricate details, I felt myself getting more and more excited as I walk around the lobby knowing that I will finally have that much-awaited relaxing weekend that I've been looking forward to. Warm Hellos, Genuine Smiles From the moment we entered the basement parking and were greeted with a joyous hello from the parking attendant followed by the warm welcome that we got...
