#FrannyCooks : Ximending Chicken Pops DIY Kit

Image
Allow me to make yet another fearless forecast -- I smell another food trend coming our way and it's in the form of these nice corrugated boxes that's filled with all sorts of ingredients that's packed and carefully sealed. DIY Kits  are here and it means allowing all of us to take our cooking/baking skills to the next level! Since we all have to stay home and to keep ourselves safe from the virus, why not recreate some of your restaurant favorites and enjoy these with the family. I've actually been cooking and baking more since the start of the quarantine and I have to say that I have became more bold and creative in the kitchen. Back then, I'd stick to the usual baked goodies, easy pasta dishes, stir-fries and steamed dishes. For the past weeks, I've learned to make more seafood dishes, cook steak properly, bake a variety of treats and just tonight, I made Galbi Jjim -- a dish that I've been planning to make for months.  A few weeks ago, I rece...

Food Trend : Sushi Bake and Where to Get this in Manila

Image
A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege to guest in the one and only podcast that I religiously listen to. It's called Sini Gang  and it's by my friends and foodie idols -- Chef Edward Bugia, Chef Sharwin Tee and The Pickiest Eater in the World, Richie Zamora . For many nights especially during this quarantine season, I would find myself working till midnight and I would always have Sini Gang playing in the background as I listen in to their various episodes that mostly revolves around food. So when Richie approached me and asked if I can be their guest for one of their shows, despite having a hundred butterflies in my stomach, I said YES. I'd be crazy to pass up an opportunity to join a fun discussion with my foodie friends. We talked about the top food trends that has hit our country since the start of the ECQ and this includes the Dalgona Coffee, the Ube Cheese Pandesal (where I shared about Twin Beans Kitchen ) and of course, the ever famous -- Sushi Bake . Lin...

Wimi Ice Cream : Thai Coconut Ice Cream in Singapore

Image
I'm sensing a  new food trend coming to Singapore. Actually, maybe it has already arrived and it's happening right this very moment. Being a tropical country, cooling down with a cup of (you name it) gelato, yogurt or ice cream just makes perfect sense. It's the kind of food item that you can have anytime of the day. In fact, I wouldn't just classify it as a dessert as you can have your cold treat as an afternoon snack or as a nice evening night cap before heading to bed. Last Friday, Paul and I met up for a nice impromptu dinner date as we've been so busy with work these past few weeks so instead of normally heading home, cooking dinner and doing our chores, we decided to just eat out and relax. After our meal in Clementi, we walked towards the newly opened 321 Clementi Mall which, I promise you, is hard to miss. It's a tall building and you can easily spot it especially when you're taking the MRT coming from the east.

Green Cheese Japanese Cheesecake, Hole in the Wall Food Hall

Image
I sure hope that you all had a good start to your week! Coming from such an action-packed weekend, I'm glad that I had a relatively calm and steady Monday to match my sleepy state. Had it been one that's crazy and stressful, I would have probably went nuts! Then, I remembered this mouthwatering Japanese Cheesecake that I recently had back in Manila. The thought of it was enough to put a smile on my face. Not the cutesy, Mona Lisa-like smile but the kind that is so infectious that will surely spread around in minutes. Something like this... Isn't this the cutest thing? Opening soon in Manila, Green Cheese will soon allow the public to have a bite (or more) of its fluffy and soft Japanese Cheesecake that literally melts-in-your-mouth. I just love the custard-like texture that's so milky you just want to laze in bed in your PJs while indulging on this delectable creation all day long. We tried it warm and right after placing it in the fridge and I personally prefer ...

Cronut Chronicles #1 : Chatime in Pioneer, Mandaluyong City

Image
Months ago, photos of this donut-like pastry has been popping up on my Facebook wall and Instagram feed . One post after the other from various friends would show their latest discovery and I have been dying to give this a try. CRONUTS . That's what they're called. A perfect play between the mouthwatering words "croissant" + "donuts" I later found out. Did a little research about it and learned that these sweet creations originated in New York, USA. Trust my fellow Filipinos to catch this food craze right away and so within weeks more and more bakeries and retail shops began offering their own versions of Cronuts. Before heading home last weekend, I messaged a couple of foodie friends to point me to where I should try my first cronut. They were very helpful in giving me tips and so I went home ready for my Cronut initiation. First stop was at Chatime in Pioneer, Mandaluyong City. When a friend told me about this, I immediately asked if she's su...

Bono Artisanal Gelato in SM Makati

Image
Allow me to make another bold foodie prediction for the year . The last time I did this was a few months ago when I predicted that ramen will be the next BIG thing here in Manila. After I said this, then came in more ramen franchises from all over the world. So far I've tried 3 of them and loved them all equally. You can read about it here and here . I heard from foodie friends that there will be about 2 to 3 more ramen shops that will open their doors here in Manila this 2013. What a fun year for ramen lovers out there! Aside from ramen, there's one brand that has been spreading around the foodie world like wildfire. From the moment I arrived in Manila, friends have been messaging and texting me about it. The name is BONO . Initially, I thought it has something to do with the Irish singer of the band U2. Probing further, I was told that it's a local gelato brand that's located in SM Makati . The way friends talk about Bono was enough to convince me that I sho...

Cookie Butter Showdown : Biscoff vs. Trader Joe's

Image
Manila has seriously turned into a foodie mecca. Gone are the days wherein people are contented with the limited choices of restaurants and they would visit the same ones week in and out. Today, food trends are flying in and around the city, a good number of foodies would roam the streets in search for the latest find and one would go beyond the 7,107 islands of the country in order to satisfy his/her tummy with the yummiest thing out there. We're a rice eating country but lately people are starting to buy more bread and to bring a sandwich to work is the next in thing. Why is that? If you ask me, I'm pointing to these two bottles as the main culprits -- meet Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter and Lotus Biscoff Spread . Trader Joe's Speculooos Crunchy Cookie Butter (Left) + Lotus Biscoff Spread (Right) It all happened so fast, one day Peanut Butter and Jelly ruled the land and the next day it was these two spreads fighting for the limelight on the sandwich ...

Mamma Mia! it's Gelatissimo!

Image
Trust the Yummy team to have the nose (as well as the taste buds) for the latest food finds in the metro! It was during one of our lunch outs that the team agreed to have dessert at Gelatissimo , an Australian gelato brand that first opened in Cebu and now has its very first Metro Manila branch at Greenbelt 5 ! We were very full from a hearty lunch at Lorenzo's Way that I was really contemplating whether or not I would still go for a bowl of gelato for myself. Arriving at the store, I was surprised to see a huge crowd! Looks like gelato is the next in thing this 2010! I wonder how delicious their gelato is that I've decided to give it a try as well! I love how they creatively presented each flavor! Imagine having a box of green tea sitting on top of their.. *what else?!* Green Tea flavored gelato! It was pretty difficult to decide what to get since I want to try more than one flavor. It was a good thing that the team decided to get the Coppa Bambino (Php. 600), which is t...
