What a Crack! : Skinny Pizza at Raffles City

Pizza is one of those dishes that never fails to bring friends or family to bond. Sure, the mere fact that we would come together for a meal is a good opportunity to connect already but being able to enjoy something delicious from the same box or pan is something else. Growing up, Pan and I would have pizza for our afternoon merienda especially while studying for our final exams. Through the years, pizza has been our comfort food and something we would crave for every now and then.

So, when my dear friend I came to Singapore for a short visit and she decided to round up the gang (which means inviting other Singapore-based school mates of ours) for dinner, the unanimous choice was Skinny Pizza. I have to be honest though, after trying about 4 pizza delivery companies here in the Lion City, nothing still beats the ones that I truly love back home. Somehow, the ones here are not as flavorful, the toppings are plenty but still ho-hum and the dough is normally thick and very chewy. I'm not giving up though, I'm determined to find THE ONE...the perfect pizza that the Lion City can offer.

What Skinny Pizza is offering is something unique and different. Extremely thin crust pizza with a wide-array of toppings. Curious at how thin the crust is? Think that of a papadum or a tortilla chip. Yup, it's that thin. We tried a couple of flavors that evening.

Squid Ink (S$29)
This is Skinny Pizza's signature flavor. The crust is black as it consists of squid ink and it's topped with squid rings, arugula, cherry tomatoes and a generous amount of sprinkled parmesan cheese. Researching about Skinny Pizza, you'll definitely read about the Squid Ink Pizza so my expectations for it was quite high. Sadly, it was just a-okay for me. Nothing truly remarkable as all I remembered was my crust breaking into teeny-tiny pieces as it couldn't carry all the toppings for long. Oops!

Macadamia Roasted Pumpkin (S$22)
My friend K recommended this. I was surprised at how delicious roasted sweet pumpkin, crushed macadamia nuts, arugula, sprinkled parmesan cheese and a creamy white sauce that swirls all over the pizza. I have to admit, I wasn't sure if this would be good when K ordered it but this turned out to be my favorite for the night. The sweet pumpkin was so delicious and it blended perfectly with the rest of the savory ingredients. I'm definitely going back for more.

Smoked Turkey Swiss (S$28)
Imagine having your favorite lunch sandwich on a pizza. Generous pieces of turkey ham, slices of red onions, arugula and blueberry toppings. Oohlala! Another genius combination of something sweet and savory. It was good but nothing still beats the Macadamia Roasted Pumpkin. Sorry!

Bolognese with Mozzarella (S$24)
This is a manly-man's pizza choice. Imagine your thin-crust pizza covered with meat sauce, huge slices of buffalo mozzarella cheese, fresh tomato slices and some arugula.

Aside from their pizza, they also have starters such as their ever-famous Truffle Fries and the 1 Metre Long Sausage. For pasta, we tried the Pesto Pasta which was quite dry and bland. Sure, it's a very simple pasta but I do hope the chef didn't forget make it just as amazing as the pizza flavors.

What a fun dinner spent with old and new friends over yummy pizza. I got to admit though that since the pizza crust are so thin, one person can actually consume one whole pizza. So, this make it quite expensive if you think about it as average damage per person would probably be $40 for a full meal. Nonetheless, it truly is worth to try.

Skinny Pizza is located at the Basement (#B1-63/64) Raffles City, 252 North Bridge Road, Raffles City Shopping Centre, Singapore. They also have branches in Wheelock Place, Great World City, Plaza Singapura, 100 AM and Westgate. Call them at +65-6333-5069.
