OC Food Trail : Green Rabbit Crepe and Salad Gastrobar, Singapore

We all know that Orchard Road is the place to go when you want to shop here in Singapore. To borrow a famous tagline, Orchard pretty much got it all for you! From satisfying your retail needs down to treating your taste buds to a wide-array of yummy choices, this is one place every tourist should not miss out on and for locals and residents here, it's the perfect place to meet up with friends or to do some retail therapy when stress sets in.

If you ask me, my favorite part of Orchard Road is within the Somerset district. For some reason, I really enjoy shopping in the malls within this particular area because all of the brands that I love can be found here. Recently, I was invited to a lunch food trail at the Basement 2 of Orchard Central a.k.a. OC where we got to visit three of the newest food establishments there. Our first stop was at Green Rabbit Crepe and Salad Gastrobar.

This is a perfect place for office workers especially for those who likes having a healthy, light lunch. Salad bars are abundant in this beautiful tiny island but what I think would make Green Rabbit stand out are two things: #1 it also offers crepes giving you a complete meal option and... #2 the variety of choices or you can simply create your own salad, even turning one to a wrap!

We were able to sample three of Green Rabbit's best-selling salad flavours:

Meet Mona Laksa (S$9.90). A bowl of fresh greens topped with prawns, vermicelli noodles, boiled egg, alfalfa sprouts, carrots, croutons and a generous serving of their homemade creamy laksa dressing. The serving was quite huge that this can be shared by two people. The dressing was able to perk up the flavor with a slight spicy kick of curry. The prawns were very fresh and it's really nice to bite into the springy vermicelli noodles that perfectly went well with the crunchy salad greens. I really find this salad very tasty and actually look forward to having this again.

Then there's Tom Yummy (S$9.90), Thai-inspired fresh salad with romaine lettuce, prawns, sliced mushrooms, carrots, cherry tomatoes, vermicelli noodles, capsicum, tofu and Thai Tom Yum dressing. Ohhh the sauce on this one was really spicy! Since I have a very low tolerance, I could only take a small serving and I happily let my dining companions enjoy the rest of the salad.

Among the three salads, I was really excited to try Koi Nippon (S$9.90) simply because I love anything Japanese. Plus, I found out that it's mixed with smoked salmon! Yummy! I had to be extra careful though as they've also included corn kernels which my body is intolerant of. Picking the ingredients carefully, I tried the tofu, cold soba noodles, broccoli and cherry tomatoes all drizzled with the white miso Japanese dressing. The flavor of this salad was quite mild as I was expecting a nice sesame punch to come out. It was okay but to be honest, it could have been way better.

I like how they have created very localized flavours that everyone in Singapore are familiar with. Perhaps on my next visit, I'll try the Wasabi Babe which also has smoked salmon but with a stronger wasabi dressing or if I'm feeling brave, the Chili Crabby which is their take on the famous Singaporea Chili Crab dish.

There's a good number of tables for 16pax available for dine-in customers but my guess is that most will probably order their salads to go especially if they're working within the area. Sadly, we were not able to try the crepes this time so that's one thing that I'm really looking forward to on my next visit.
