Kozui Green Tea: an afternoon zen break

My sister and I always look forward to Saturday afternoons. This is because we usually make the most of this time to go out with mommy for a short but sweet merienda (afternoon snack) bonding.

One Saturday, we found ourselves driving along Tomas Morato in search of a cozy looking restaurant for our weekly bonding session. My sister, who has been wanting to try something new, pointed Kozui Green Tea out to us and mentioned that she has been hearing a lot of raves about it. Since we all love Green Tea, we gladly went with her suggestion.

Entering the brightly lit restaurant, I immediately sense a very happy vibe all over the place. A shelf was adorned with cute, Japanese trinkets while their community board has photos of regular customers obviously loving their choice of drinks. We settled at a table by the door that has a semi-circle lime green couch. It took us a while to finalize our order because everything looks so good!

Finally my mom and sister each got the Iced Genmaicha Lemon Tea (Php. 80) while I chose the Hot Roast Green Tea Latte (Php. 100). To share, we also got the Karaage Chicken Wrap (Php. 158), their famous Takoyaki balls (Php. 98), Cold Green Tea Soba (Php. 158) and a bowl of Mango Anmitsu (Php. 148) for dessert.

Good thing the serving is just good for one or we might have to just skip merienda and call it an early dinner. Our drinks arrived shortly after we placed our order. I pulled my steaming mug of Green Tea Latte close to my nose and loved the strong, sweet smell of the Roasted Genmaicha powder. ohhh..li nioi (smells good)!

After savoring the aroma of my warm drink, I took a small cautious sip. Believe me, it's sooo good! No course texture caused by undissolved green tea powder, no bitter taste at all. It was so smooth and I love the sweet, creamy taste as it hits my taste buds.

Finally, the rest of our orders were served. First, we tried the Kaarage Chicken Wrap. We enjoyed the crunchy chicken strips mixed with chopped cucumber and tomatoes drizzled with their very tasty Black Sesame dressing. This is wrapped in soft pita bread and sealed with a thin strip of nori for that Japanese feel. One problem that we always encounter when eating a pita wrap sandwich is having to deal with soggy pita bread that has quickly absorbed in the sauce which later leads to a very messy dining experience. Thankfully, Kozui's wrap has just the right amount of sauce which the meat and veggies have absorbed in, leaving the pita bread and nori strip dry and firm enough to hold the entire sandwich together.

Having had tried a dozen Takoyakis outside from small food carts in the mall to the ever famous Samurai stall, Kozui's version somehow fell short of our expectations. One order comprises of five Takoyaki balls which were beautifully arranged on a white platter dotted with Japanese mayonnaise and topped with bonito flakes. As we sliced into our takoyaki balls, we were somewhat looking for a generous amount of seafood bits enclosed in a crispy-on-the-outside-and-soft-on-the-inside ball. Sadly, we got quite a mushy ball with very little seafood bits. *sigh*

We should have just skipped the Takoyaki and went on with the Cold Green Tea Soba. This dish is a cool delight after burning our tongues with the disappointing Takoyaki balls. The soft, Green Tea soba noodles are served on top of a Japanese sushi mat with ice cubes. It comes with a very flavorful sauce that we were told to dip the noodles into. Mmm...yummy :) It perfectly complements our drinks too!

To cap off our wonderful mother-daughter bonding session, we had a bowl of Mango Anmitsu once again to share. Anmitsu is the Japanese version of our native Halo-Halo. Served on a small black bowl, we enjoyed digging into the two kinds of chewy dango balls, sweet azuki (red) beans, pink taro jam, green tea jelly, mango bits and a generous swirl of green tea ice cream. A very colorful sweet dessert that I will definitely go back to Kozui for.

The interior is predominantly in lime green which reminds me of my favorite Sanrio character, Kerokerokeroppi. :) I also noticed a lot of students hanging out as they surf the net with their laptops. Hmm.. it somehow has the feel of Starbucks Coffee minus the smell of roasted coffee beans and the constant whirling sound of the blenders. I truly hope Kozui will soon expand and find its way to the Ortigas area and perhaps down South. For now, we look forward to taking that quick drive to Tomas Morato for our green tea fix.

Kozui Green Tea is located at 258-B Tomas Moato Ave., Quezon City. You may call them at 413-2705.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (mini spoiler alert)

The girls are back!

After three summers and a high school graduation, the story re-opens with our favorite girls namely: Carmen, Tibby, Lena and Bridget moving on to new adventures as they begin college life. Of course, the ever-famous pair of jeans was still very much present moving from Turkey to Vermont to New York and finally to Greece.

It was a very light movie which is just perfect after a hectic day at work. Watching the movie has somehow made me wish that I have my own "sisterhood" whom I can always count on to be there. As one of the most touching scene was when Carmen's mom was about to give birth and Carmen, being miles away in drama camp, had to ask Tibby to help her out. Despite the fact that they just had a minor squabble prior to the call, Tibby immediately rushed out to make it to the hospital to be there for Carmen's mom.

The movie touches on the beauty of friendship. It dwells on the importance of having your own support good through the good and bad times of life. It made me look at my own life and be thankful for one particular person who has been there for me for 23 years now. She has been there to bare my crazy side and did not ever hesitate to give me her opinion on things. She has been my biggest fan (nax!) and has also made me proud of her in so many ways. She's my pig-out session buddy and the only person whom I can always count on to stand up for me when the need arises. She'll never spill my secrets out to the world, she'll someday be my maid of honor and my bestest friend forever...

my dear readers, meet my sister, Pan

Just like the four girls in the movie, we may disagree at times but we know that no matter what, we'll always be there for each other. Ü

my lucky streak

I guess I've mentioned a million times that I love joining contests. The mere thought of winning just gives me that extra buzz that I need every now and then. I guess I've also mentioned a gazillion times how unlucky I can be. After joining almost every raffle contests that comes my way and still ending up with nothing, I'm still not ready to give up just yet. Nope! The competitive spirit in my is still alive and very much kicking.

This year has been very special for me. Aside from the numerous major changes that has happened and is still happening in my life, I also had my first win as seen here. While I'm still waiting for my special prize to be delivered next year, I got another happy email this morning.

Just what I needed on a lazy Monday morning... a short but sweet congratulatory email informing me that I have won these cool tickets!

Yipee!! It may not be that big a prize but at least it's something, right?

Can't wait for tomorrow!! Thank you my lucky stars...Ü

I love Sanrio!

It has been a busy and fun week with events happening left and right. While I love getting my schedules filled up to the brim, I know I should also set a limitation for myself. For instance, waking up yesterday morning, I can already feel my body sending major signals of it about to pull up the white flag anytime soon. I was really planning to go straight home after work but how can I say NO to an invite to see this?

White Hello Kitty bags *droool*

or these?
White Hello Kitty appliance showcase

Hello Kitty dining set-up

Hello Kitty bathroom display (in partnership with HCG)

But what I love most was this....

Hello Kitty jewelry line

I'll definitely save up for the last one Ü Obviously, yesterday was a purr-fest day! Miao!

Ahavia Lounge Spa : the newest kid on the block

"I badly need a massage."

This has been my most recent complain everytime Paul would ask how my day was at work. Thankfully, my boyfriend knows me well enough to immediately get my (billboard size) hint. Not that I do intense manual labor but it's more of my need to take time out and to relax -- physically and mentally.

Finally, I got my wish. Taking my friend Jane's recommendation, we tried the newest spa in the neighborhood.

The drive to Ahavia was a very short one. Located at the not-so-busy side of Wilson Street, we entered a private parking lot that leads to the garden entrance of the spa. The ambiance instantly reminds me of Thailand: the artistic decors and my personal favorite -- the outdoor chairs that is shaped like a cupped hand.

Upon entering, we were greeted by Ms. Carol, a very very very friendly and accomodating woman, whose son owns the spa. Surveying the interiors, I can't help but notice that it looked like a typical home with the spa feel. True enough, Ms. Carol shared with us that they actually live at the 2nd floor and the entire place is the ancestral home of her family.

We played safe for our first visit, me choosing the Minty Glow Foot Spa (Php. 199) and a Spa Pedicure w/ a twist (Php. 159) while Paul settled for a 20-minute Back and Shoulder Massage (Php. 99) as he's not that into long spa treatments.

We were led to the Express Room where 5 single couches were lined up with a curtain that separates each chair. Quite typical but what made it unique was the inclusion of a flat screen TV and a DVD player where customers can choose from their long list of movies available. Of course, Paul was overjoyed!

My Minty Foot Spa was relaxing, I love the scent of the scrub and lotion that were applied to my poor feet. My therapist was also very patient and determined to scrub all the callouses away. I guess it was pretty bad that it actually took her more than an hour to complete the entire foot spa routine. After which, she continued by doing my pedicure. I was looking forward to the same amount of attention to be given to clean my nails and cuticles while the twist was supposedly a soothing massage (or as the brochure claims for it to be). However, the pedicure was sooo fast that I can't even remember if I got the massage. Not wanting to sound demanding, I just let it go thinking that my therapist might be exhausted from all that scrubbing done earlier. Looking back though, I should have at least asked about it. *sigh* Maybe next time.

Paul, on the other hand, loved his Back and Shoulder Massage. I guess what really brought his experience to a new height was the fact that he was happily watching Sweeney Todd while getting his massage. Much to my dismay as I was really trying hard to get the Zen feel but the sound of murder and blood was just too much. Ugh! How I wish they have installed mini tv screens per couch complete with individual headsets so customers has the option not to watch and to catch some Zzzs instead.

Over all, our experience at Ahavia was pleasant and relaxing. Not really the type of Zen comfort that I'm used to but it's always good to try something new. Though, they can still improve the ambiance by having pipe-in music for instance. I am excited to try their scrubs particularly the Botanical Strawberry Scrub (Php. 599) but after reading reviews of their lack of shower rooms and facilities, maybe I should just put this off till next time. Nonetheless, Paul and I truly enjoyed our simple dose of relaxation at Ahavia Ü

Ensaymada love

Having enough time to spare before the outreach that Paul and I promised to attend today, I suggested that we drop by the Legazpi Market so I can finally show Paul why I love it so much! Thankfully, most of the stalls were still not pulling out despite the fact that it was almost 2PM. Upon entering the market, Paul was immediately drawn towards Imang Salud's stall mainly due to her giant ensaymadas and those to-die-for Plantanillas.

I smiled at the stall owner, Mrs. Henares, not really expecting her to remember me since we just met once and this was already a month ago. Guess what?! She remembered me and even asked me if I'm Frannywanny. WOW! I'm so touched and flattered! She continued by telling me that she has read my article and thank me for liking the Plantanilla.

Even after a dozen "no tita, it's ok po..." and "nakakahiya po, it's ok really...", she still insists that I accept her gift as her way of saying THANK YOU.

So, I finally gave in and brought home this yummy merienda for my family and Paul to enjoy:

Dear Mrs. Henares,
Thank you very much for your kind gesture. I will and forever love your plantanillas and your classic ensaymadas Ü - Fran

Manila, Manila, I'll build my home in Manila

*photos by Paul Ang

Manila, a city that continues to glow with colorful horse-drawn carriages (kalesa) and jeepneys that cruises down the long stretch of Roxas Boulevard and one that maintains its historical appeal through the various national landmarks is also home to more than 1.6M Filipinos.

Growing up in another city, sadly, Manila is one of the cities that I rarely visit. However, every time I do, it never fails to dazzle me with its ancient feel while showing signs of keeping up with the latest urban trends.

Just recently, Paul and I were invited by Alveo Land (formerly known as Community Innovations) and its PR counterpart to visit their newest development in Manila called Celadon Manila. What I always like about Ayala's projects (be it residential or commercial) is the fact that they manage to surround the area with greens and keep a very eco-friendly community. Furthermore, its neighborhood has integrated various elements that will allow the residents to live, work, dine and shop without going through the hassle of driving or commuting. In other words: EVERYTHING is within reach!

Arriving at Celadon Manila, we were directed to park the car by the clubhouse that has a beautiful pool and a colorful playground set where we saw a handful of kids enjoying their early morning swim.

The model unit was beautifully decorated however Paul and I both agreed that it's a bit too cramp and tiny for our liking. After the brief tour, we were ushered towards the entrance of the village where PICK Manila was located.

I guess it's common knowledge now how much I L.O.V.E. going to Weekend Markets! Therefore, seeing that the invite includes a chance to check out Celadon Manila's version that aims to bring the weekend market lifestyle to the Manileños, how can I say no to this?

To the market, to the market

We went on the first Sunday and while the long rectangular covered walkway was lined with a mix of food and dry goods stalls, I can't help but immediately compare this with the ones that I frequently visit such as this, this and this. PICK Manila has a different feel. It has more Asian and local choices that keeps you close to home. If there's one thing that will make me travel all the way back to Manila every Sunday...it would probably be this:

we love our flavored soda!! - Jane of Between Bites and yours truly -

Italian Strawberry Soda (Php. 55)

It was a warm Sunday morning and drinking a tall cup of flavored iced soda was just perfect. I love it with strawberry syrup while our companions liked the blueberry and lemon flavors. To prove just how good it was, the largest (XL) cup was sold out and they even ran out of ice when I went back to buy my second cup!

After a fun morning spent at Celadon Manila, Paul and I agreed that it is the perfect residential choice for newlyweds and small families who wants to live in Manila. With its close proximity to schools, churches and hospitals, it makes urban living a breeze.

PICK Manila is located the heart of Sta. Cruz Manila and can be found right in front of SM San Lazaro.

Taking a Stand

The number of blogs are growing at a very fast-paced speed. I guess it's because of the convenience of being online most of the time (thanks to DSL and WIFI connections). Through this, the Internet has turned out to be a most accessible venue where even the most bashful individual could open themselves up to the world while remaining anonymous.

With the growth and popularity of blogs as an alternate resource material for people who would like to update themselves with the latest trends, newest restaurants or the best weekend getaway, it then follows that more and more brands are starting to give more attention to build a better online presence and by inviting bloggers to their media launch and events. If your really think about it, its a perfect marketing tactic to get the word out there with just a very minimal cost.

Sadly, some agencies and brands have gone tad overboard. In order to make sure that they get a positive write-up, they would go to the extent of paying a fee at the painful expense of compromising the bloggers' credibility.

It has been a year since this blog was launched. To be honest, there was no dramatic story on how this was created. It's just as simple as me, being passionate in writing and after years of keeping a very personal blog, I've decided to take a step back and to let go of all that emo. "It was about time", I thought.

Writing about my food and travel adventures, just came naturally. I always believe that a blog is first and foremost, your online journal. This is something that i would like to look back to after ten years to remind me of some wonderful experiences that I've had as it is being documented in this site. Who knows, maybe it's also one of the things that I can share with my kids someday. Think of it as your new-age story-telling session (Anak, just log on to www.frannywanny.com before you sleep ha ;))!

Coincidentally, I opened my inbox today and I have received an email talking about a very similar issue on paid blog entries. I'd like to share it with all of you:

Dear Flipflopping my way through town,

I am writing on behalf of our client, Wrigley Philippines, regarding an event organized exclusively for bloggers entitled “7,100 Tastes” sponsored by Orbit Gum. Having one of the largest networks of online independent publishers in the country, our agency contacted Mad Crowd Media to invite bloggers like yourself to participate in this event.

We would like to clarify on behalf of Wrigley Philippines that a clear misrepresentation was made when Mad Crowd Media communicated “compensation for editorials”, encouraging paid posts. We had no idea beforehand that such a proposition would be offered and neither do we condone such actions. We would also like to emphasize that Wrigley was not involved whatsoever in the email invitation independently sent by Mad Crowd Media on Wrigley’s behalf, and would never have agreed to such an arrangement.

We have consistently communicated to our clients that event participation does not guarantee an editorial post of which they understood and supported completely. We respect the opinions and unbiased feedback of online independent publishers.

In light of this incident, we are no longer working with Mad Crowd Media and we are not pushing through with the event on September 15 to preserve the intention of the event to build a relationship with bloggers in a professional and credible way. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I would like to personally clarify any miscommunication caused by this incident. Please e-mail me your contact details at _______________ or you can contact me anytime at ________ so we can discuss this incident and clarify all concerns. Thank you very much for your understanding.
Note: the name and contact details of the sender has been deleted for security purposes.

With that, I would like to re-assure my dear readers that frannywanny has not and will never ever accept payments in exchange of blog entries. All reviews here are products of my occassional frequent dinner dates my Paul and with friends and were written right after a wonderful experience that I just have to share with the world. Ü

Little Miss Shopaholic

Once in a while a girl can dream...she can also wish and pray and allow herself to indulge in things that will make her truly happy.

For instance, today this particular girl allowed herself to gawk, drool and get excited over the newest, cutest gadget by techie genius Steve Jobs. Introducing....

the NEW iPod nano!!

What I love about it: the delicious Skittles-like colors!
The only problem about it: the delicious Skittles-like colors that makes it really hard for me to choose which one I like best

Darn....

In other news, I finally saw the trailer of the movie version of my favorite chic lit novel, Confessions of a Shopaholic!!!

Well, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed after watching the trailer because it didn't get me even a lil bit excited. In fact, I find "Rebecca" too American as I always picture her to be a typical British girl with a heavy British accent. Then again, maybe its just a bad trailer and the movie might be better. Looks like we all have to wait and see till February 2009!

Turning ONE!

Today, my blog turns a year old! It has been a fun year filled with gastronomic delights, exciting and memorable trips and lots of happy bits and pieces here and there.

As I promised that you'll see a lot of great and, of course, wonderful changes to happen in the coming months, the first of these changes happens TODAY.

Turning one, I realized that it's about time to get out of my shell and to finally establish my identity in the blogosphere. Thus....

www.frannywanny.com

... is born.

It's truly a blogger's dream come true. It's my first big step towards bringing my blog to greater heights and hopefully to continue to entertain everyone with stories of my food and travelling experiences.

Lastly, I would like to Thank YOU. You have no idea how my heart would do tiny cartwheels and triple back flips everytime I would get comments and messages from my dear friends and readers. Thank you for always dropping by!

Cheers!

West Side Story: Opening Night Jitters [ spoiler alert! ]

A new take on Shakespeare's classical Romeo and Juliet where it involves two neighborhood gangs that is always at war with one another and two hearts that continues to beat despite the rivalry and forces that keeps them apart.

It opened with a fight scene between the Jets (a group of white American boys) and the Sharks (a group of Puerto Rican immigrants) in West Side Manhattan. The story continues when Tony, a former Jets member, saw Maria, the sister of Bernardo who's the head of the Sharks, at a dance. They immediately fell in love despite knowing the possible consequences if ever they would get caught. The rumble between the Jets and the Sharks continues. Maria asked Tony to stop the fight which he promises to do. Unfortunately, the fight turned ugly leaving Riff and Bernardo, both gang heads, dead.

This was just the first part of the play. Though the story was pretty interesting, I somehow felt that something was missing. I've always been a fan of musicals but for some reason I found myself yawning halfway through the First Act and checking my watch every now and then. I looked around and I saw a number of people dozing off too. Hmm..looks like I'm not the only one bored.

In fairness to the casts, they were all good. Christian Bautista really showed that he can definitely do stage plays while Joanna Ampil was also a delight to watch. However, I guess there were just too many lull periods throughout the play. Parts where we, as the audience, would just watch and wait as to what will happen next. The music was wonderful too as it's by the talented Gerard Salonga and his orchestra.

I guess it's what you'd call the opening night jitters. The show where unforeseen and definitely unexpected incidents happen. For instance, the sound system was a bit distracting throughout the show. In fact, during the Second Act, we all heard a loud crash which could possibly come from a mic that fell off. The chemistry between Tony and Maria also seems to lack that kilig factor that the audience would inevitably look for. I always believe that an effective romantic scene would automatically make you go "awwwwwww". Last night, I somehow felt like I'm watching a couple doing major PDA on stage :(

The play has a very simple story line but as the curtain finally closes, we were all left thinking "That was it?"

Note that this is my personal take on the West Side Story production. Perhaps, tonight's and every succeeding show would be more entertaining. I would still encourage all of you to watch the famous love story of Tony and Maria.

Then again, maybe I am still enthralled with Avenue Q that it would take another great stage production to beat this. Ü

The Hotlight is Coming to Mall of Asia!

The countdown begins!

In less than 3 days, Krispy Kreme will open its 8th store in SM Mall of Asia!!! Now citizens from Pasay and nearby cities can have their fill of Krispy Kreme's mouth-watering Original Glazed doughnuts anytime, anyday! What's special about this store is that it will be the first drive thru store in a mall!

Yesterday, Paul and I were lucky enough to be a part of an exclusive party that the people behind this mouthwatering doughnut brand prepared for the media. Thanks also to Shar and Becky who extended the invite to yours truly. Ü

Arriving 30 minutes before the time mentioned in the invite, we already saw a crowd forming in front of the store. Bongga! (Exceptional) was my initial comment. MTV was a major sponsor and they really went all out with a beautiful photo backdrop, tall cocktail tables, a buffet set-up by Albergus, a small stage, roving lights and lots of Krispy Kreme representatives ready to answer to your needs.

After registering our names, we were guided in by their very friendly Marketing Manager, Mabelle Ang, who coincidentally was my high school batchmate. She led us to the back drop for a brief photo op (it was really brief that for a moment there I totally forgot to check if I looked OK, haha!..oh well). We chatted for a while and as Mabes had to leave to attend to more guests, Paul and I made our way towards the buffet table.

I got to hand it to Albergus! They really know how to create a yummy-looking buffet set-up! We filled our plates with Salmon Cream Penne, Salmon Gravlax with Caesar dressing, a couple of nachos and of course, a slice of Albergus' signature Roast Beef with gravy.

I particularly loved the salad since I'm a huge fan of salmon! It's also an added bonus that it's fresh salmon with one of my favorite salad dressing! Definitely a winner in my book!

Bongga was really the word of the night. Not only was the dinner impressive but so was the program and the prizes that were raffled off. Imagine winning a month's worth of doughtnuts? Not that impressed yet? How about making it an entire year's supply of Krispy Kreme doughnuts? Gosh! I can just imagine getting a box of a dozen doughnuts every week for a year! I'd probably share this with everyone and send some boxes to charity. That would be sweeettt!

However, what got me praying last night was the grand prize. It was a Trip for 2 to Malaysia (inclusive of airfare, 3D/2N accomodation and pocket money) to witness the opening of their first ever Krispy Kreme store! Too bad, I wasn't THAT lucky to win the prize. *sigh*

Nevertheless, Paul and I enjoyed the party as we were treated to an early tour around the store before it officially opens on Friday. For a moment there, I felt like a kid peering through the glass while watching sugar glaze dripping over one doughnut after the other. We also were given a box of my ultimate favorite Original Glazed Doughnuts and our choice of coffee.

While Paul and I were not that lucky last night, there's still hope for everyone! Because on September 5, Krispy Kreme will be awarding early birds by giving away prizes to the first 300 walk in and drive thru customers. The 1st customer will win a one year's supply of Original Glazed doughnuts! The second will be awarded with a 6 months supply while the third gets a 3 months supply of those mouth-watering, drool worthy doughnuts! Don't worry though if you came in 7th because the 4th to the 100th customer will each take home a months supply of doughnuts! And to top it all, the first 300 customers will also be given the chance to join the raffle for the Malaysia trip! Now, this is a very good reason to troop all the way to Mall of Asia to secure your chance for free doughnuts and the raffle.

Hear ye, hear ye! Contest alert!

To get everyone in the Krispy Kreme mood, I will be raffling off a cute KK goodie bag that contains a limited edition Krispy Kreme shirt and a keychain! Yahoooo!! All you have to do is to share your thoughts based on the question:

What's your favorite Krispy Kreme doughnut and what do you normally pair this with?

I'll start... My favorite is obviously the Original Glazed and I love to have this early in the morning with a steaming mug of Kaffe Kreme where I would dunk my doughnut in. Ü

Deadline of comments/entries is on September 7 (Sunday) at 11:59PM. Only one entry per person please to give everyone a fair chance Ü Once your number has been drawn, I will be contacting you so please include your email address in too! The prize will be sent straight to your doorstep right away!

See you at Krispy Kreme (Mall of Asia), Ground Floor, Entertainment Mall (near the IMAX theater)!

Bitten once again by the Pepper Lunch bug!

This is a classic story of a guy who, after finally giving in to his girlfriend's stubborn cravings and insistent requests demands, agreed to drive beyond their usual dating area just to come face to face with a line that had to make them wait for 10 minutes before getting a table and eventually falling in love with the food that made him truly understand the reason why every single food enthusiasts is totally crazy about.....

PEPPER LUNCH!!!

It was just an ordinary weeknight and I was lucky enough to convince Paul to have dinner at Rockwell. I guess it's true that when you're with someone long enough, you'll have that strong connection going on that sooner or later you can read each other's minds. True enough, Paul knew that we'll be having dinner at Pepper Lunch the moment I suggested that we go to Rockwell. Either that or I'm just too obvious :P

Waiting in line was an ordeal. I do not understand how people can stand just waiting there while smelling the mouth-watering aroma of the meat. I swear, I can actually hear my stomach growling loudly. Thankfully, it was our turn to order. Being the one who has been to Pepper Lunch before, Paul left the ordering to me. Not wanting to disappoint the hungry man, I chose the Beef Pepper Rice and the Chicken Teriyaki Plate for us to share.

The Beef Pepper Rice is one of my favorite. Considering that I am more of a chicken or fish person rather than a hard core carnivore, I just couldn't get over how tender the beef was. However, what makes Pepper Lunch different is its fragrant pepper rice that is literally bursting with the right flavors. Paul took his first bite and gave a nod, which was his way of saying "perfect!"

The Chicken Teriyaki was another delightful plate. I truly enjoy cooking the chicken after drizzling it with the teriyaki sauce. The chicken meat was so soft that no muscle effort is needed to slice it. I also enjoyed the buttered veggies that they always serve as an accompaniment to the chicken fillet.

Once again, Pepper Lunch gained a new fan! We enjoyed it so much that we're already planning on what to order on our next visit! ;)

Septemberfest Na!

September is finally HERE! It is officially the start of the -ber months which means it's time to seriously start Christmas shopping! In fact, Paul and I have already started ours a couple of weeks ago (teeheehee). It is also the time to start saving up for those numerous holiday get-togethers. It will be a crazy season so do not ever forget to put a BIG smile on your face and CELEBRATE the nights away!

Coincidentally, September is also the month when this blog will turn 1! As my way of saying THANK YOU to everyone, do expect a lot of surprises, new and exciting changes and more stories to be told in the coming months! So please do watch out for these!

I'm soooooo excited!

Breaking the Guiness

As much as I would whine how we Filipinos are so addicted to breaking all possible records just to be part of the Guiness World Book (eg: biggest pancit bilao, biggest walis tingting, longest braided hair ever...), it is still exciting to be a "part of history" so to speak.

On September 5, San Miguel is throwing the biggest street party to open the 120 days long Oktoberfest! To make it more special, Third Eye Blind is coming to town to join our local bands as they will perform during the said event! Also, San Miguel is planning to break two Guiness World records namely: the most number of people toasting and the world's longest bar! Woohoo! It will definitely be one hella party along San Miguel Avenue in Ortigas!

See ya'll there!!!

Note to motorists though, try to leave work early or map out your alternate route as early as now since the entire stretch of San Miguel Avenue will be close to traffic.
